Wayne “Jim” Harper, 77, of North Versailles, died Tuesday August 6, 2024 at home. He was born December 14, 1946 in Braddock, a son of the late Edwin James and Margaret (Peckalnsky) Harper and was also preceded in death by siblings Edwin T. Harper and Mary Ann Stanchik. Jim retired from the maintenance department at East Allegheny School District after 42 years’ service and had served as president of the support personnel union. He started his firefighting career at the age of 15 and was a longtime member and chief of the former Dixon Hollow Volunteer Fire Department, was a founding member and president of FDNV after the merger of the North Versailles Township fire departments, and served as treasurer of the North Versailles Fire Department Relief Association. He enjoyed going to camp and was a founding member of the Five Pines Camp.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years Sharon (Pannebaker) Harper; his children Jami Harper (Sonja R.) of VA, Debby Sullivan of North Versailles, and Andrew Thomas Harper of VA; his grandchildren Ashley Bradley, Mckenzie Bradley, Kat Harper, and James E. Harper; his great grandchildren Lilah and Paisley Kuchlewski; also nephews and a nieces. At Jim’s request there will be no viewing. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held Saturday, August 31, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Hartford Heights VFD.
