Louis A. Shaw, 69, of White Oak, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016.
He was born in McKeesport on Sept. 23, 1946, and was the son of the late Henry and Julia (Zak) Szalkiewicz. Lou was a retired letter carrier in White Oak for the United States Postal Service, McKeesport branch. He proudly served his country in Vietnam as a member of the Air Force. He served his community as an active lifetime member of the Rainbow Volunteer Fire Department as well as his parish, Corpus Christi Church. He will be fondly remembered for his humor, selflessness and compassion. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Eleanor (Leskanic) Shaw; daughters, Lori (Scott) Fitzgerald, of Squirrel Hill, and Jill (Christopher) Shipley, of Ohio Township. Lou was the proud and loving "Pap Pap" to grandsons Drew Fitzgerald and Patrick and Michael Shipley. He is also survived by brothers, Joseph (Nicki) Shaw and Lenny Szalkiewicz; and sisters-in-law, Marianna Merten, Rita Miller, Ethel Stetz, and Micky (Edwin) Janzef. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES INC, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, 412-678-6177). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Corpus Christi Church with Father Michael Maranowski officiating. Burial will follow. Remembrances may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
