Lavon Halpern, 95, of White Oak, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024. Lavon was born December 6, 1928 in Elizabeth and was the daughter of the late Lawrence Kassler and the late Anna (Stulpin) Graham. She was the wife of 64 years to the late Robert D. Halpern, who passed away January 31, 2013. Lavon and her high school sweetheart, Bob, organized annual reunions well into their 80’s. She was a dedicated member of Mary, Mother of God Parish- St. Angela Merici Church, since the early days at Rainbow Gardens. Lavon was involved with Bingo, the fish fry, the parish festival and many other groups into her 90s. To celebrate her many volunteer activities, Lavon was awarded The Manifesting the Kingdom Award at St. Paul’s Cathedral in 2015. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Denise Halpern Lieberman, David (Michele) Halpern and Mark (Veronica) Halpern; grandchildren, Kristen Halpern (Matt) Morgan, Lindsey Halpern, and Kayla Halpern and cousin, Laura Jean Ludwick. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert D. Halpern, Jr. and her son-in-law, James Lieberman. Friends and family are welcome on Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director. Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, October 28, 2024 at 10:00 am at Mary, Mother of God Parish-St. Angela Merici Church.
