Joseph A. Amatangelo Jr., age 90, of Erie, formerly of Elizabeth Twp. and Donora, passed away on January 7, 2025 surrounded by his loving family at UPMC Hamot in Erie. An Air Force veteran having served during the Korean War, he was a retired mechanic for US Air and a member of St. Joachim and Anne Parish, St. Michael Church in Elizabeth Twp. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and loved playing cards with family and friends. He was a huge family man who was loved by everyone he met. Born September 1, 1934 in Donora, he was a son of the late Joseph A. and Immaculata Maria (Pulcini) Amatangelo Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jeanne (Gallick) Amatangelo; daughters, Kathleen (Jeff) Criss, Linda (Jim) Caputo and Joyce (Terry) Graham; sons, Joseph A. (Gina) Amatangelo III and Thomas (Jefferi) Amatagelo; grandchildren, Jaime, Lindsay, Max, Maria, Mia, Jake and Mara; great-grandchildren, Maddie, Allie, Paxton, James, Zoe, Palmer, Edie, Violet and "Baby A" expected in June; siblings, Marlene Perok of Michigan and Faustina (Frank) Jakela of Donora; also, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, Joseph “Jay” Amatangelo IV; daughter-in-law, Susan Kilcoyne Amatangelo; and siblings, Dolores Forty, Mary Lou Tirpak, Carmella DeSanto, Rose Lorenzo, Josephine DeSantis and Ernest and Robert Amatangelo. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth, Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 2-6 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial be in St. Michael Church on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 10 AM with the Rev. Thomas J. Burke officiating. Private burial will be in St. Dominic Cemetery in Donora.
