It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our uncle, brother-in-law, and friend Paul R. Herbert who passed quietly at the age of 91 at his home in Carmel Indiana. He was the husband of the late Eleanor L. Whiteman Herbert. They were married for 64 years and were devoted Christians. He was born in Frank, Pennsylvania on August 2, 1933, to Mary and Clyde Herbert Sr. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Margaret Weston, (Col. Logan), Betty Jo Handley, (Donald), Reta Thorne, (Alfred), and brothers Clyde (Si) Herbert Jr., (Irene), and Robert (Bob) Herbert, (Dorothy). He is survived by sisters-in-law Dr. Anne Rosche of Sunnyvale California, and Marge Aukerman of Webster New York.

He also is survived by nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews too numerous to count although he loved and cared for them like his own children. He was a man of immense humor, kindness, and wisdom. He cherished every moment spent with his friends and loved ones. He brought immeasurable joy and light into our lives. He proudly served in the US Army from May 1953 to April 1955 earning the rank of Corporal. He was a member of the Honor Guard and Headquarters Company of the 10th Infantry Division at Fort Riley Kansas. Earning: a “National Defense Medal” and “Good Conduct Medal”. He started a long and very fulfilling career in aircraft maintenance with United Airlines at the San Francisco base in 1962. Through the years he received numerous commendations and accomplished many milestones prior to his retirement as Quality Control Supervisor from Indianapolis International Airport. His favorite pastime was spending time on the golf course. He loved coming to Pennsylvania every year to play golf with his family. He was a member of a local league in Carmel, Indiana.  He loved attending yearly Herbert reunions, Holiday festivities, world traveling and the Indianapolis 500.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to: Tunnel to Towers, Gary Sinise Foundation, Fisher House Foundation, or your favorite charity. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Donna Clutter, Jim Kendall, and Ted Pontius for the love, support, and friendship they extended to our loved one. Family and friends are welcome on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township (412) 751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, Director. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm with The Rev. Dennis Handley, officiating.
