James Flanigan, age 97, of Liberty Borough, died at home on December 30, 2024.  Born April 30, 1927, in Port Vue, he was the son of the late Raymond and Jane (Blaha) Flanigan and husband of the late Shirley Flanigan.  
James began his journey as a truck driver for his father's company, he was an Army combat veteran, serving during the Korean War. His commitment to serving others continued throughout his life, notably as an active member of the American Legion Post 447 in Port Vue and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  James attended veteran support groups in White Oak, where he found camaraderie and fellowship among those who shared his experiences.

Upon returning home from the war, James pursued higher education at Penn State University in McKeesport, studying mechanical drafting and engineering.  He dedicated the remainder of his career to this field, applying his skills with passion and precision.
A man of many interests, James was an avid sports enthusiast, particularly enjoying football and attending high school games to cheer on young athletes.  He remained active well into his 90's, playing in the senior softball circuit and managing teams, demonstrating his unwavering spirit and love for the game.  Additionally, he was a familiar face on the bowling lanes at White Oak Bowl, where he participated in leagues and was a dedicated member of Norwin AARP.
James is survived by his daughters, Susan (George) Driver and Barbara (Paul) Fitzpatrick; granddaughters, Briana (Adam) Fitzpatrick-Sheikh and Kelli (Lorenzo Bobboni) Fitzpatrick; great-granddaughters, Penelope Sheikh and Aria Bobboni, who was born on January 6th; niece, Karen Andrasik; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur "Jolly" Flanigan.  
Arrangements were entrusted to Willig Funeral Home & Crematory.
