It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Robert G. Moffat at his home in Boston, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 7, 1934 to the late Gladys Matthews Tanzos and Howard L. Moffat. Robert proudly served 40 years at Bell Telephone Company and was a member of the Pioneers Organization of Bell Telephone. He was a member of the Crow’s Nest Social Club and a frequent patron of White Oak American Legion, especially on karaoke night. Throughout his life he was a member of both Mary Mother of God Catholic Church and Buena Vista Presbyterian Church. Robert was known as “The Captain” and “SpongeBob” due to his entertaining personality and perfect singing voice. Sadly, the microphone is silent. The Captain has sung his final song. Robert left an invisible mark on the hearts of everyone he touched. His door was always open, welcoming all with open arms. He was a shining example of joy, love and laughter, illuminating every gathering with his presence. A kind and gentle soul, he embodied the true meaning of family love. May his spirit soar with the angels, basking in the eternal peace and love of The Lord. His legacy will live on through our cherished memories of him.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Farkas Moffat. His children: Gordon (Joni) Moffat of Butler, Robert (Annette) Moffat of North Port, Florida, Belinda (David) Donahoe or Dravosburg, Angel (Terry) McCormley of Dravosburg, Janine (Dan) McBride of White Oak and Renee (Steve) Spitzer of Kentucky. His grandchildren: Ron (Kaleesha) Moffat Jackson, Scott Moffat (Kelly Berg), Joseph Moffat Caballero, Dustin Moffat, Robert (Paula) Moffat, Michael (Kayla) McCormley, Kevin (Lindsey) McCormley, David (Tiffany) Donahoe, Kayla Donahoe (Kevin Tinsley), Ashley Donahoe (Ian Evanskey), Daniel (Tonya) McBride, Cassie (Kenny) Swauger, Sara McBride (Michael Madala), Angie McBride, Tabitha (Chuck) Geramita, Donnie (Beth) Konias and Sophia Blackwell. His great-grandchildren: Madison Moffat, Avery Moffat, Greyson Moffat, Lilah Moffat, Mylee Moffat, McKenzie Moffat, Casen Moffat, Robbie Moffat, Jayden Tinsley, Ava Tinsley, Nova Tinsley, Natalie Donahoe, Declan Donahoe, Jensen Donahoe, Rowan Evanskey, Wyatt McCormley, MaKayla McBride, Ryker McBride, Harper McBride, Zoey McBride, Addy Swauger, Kyler Swauger, Colsen Swauger, Joseph Blackwell and Hannah Blackwell. His brothers: Howard (Pat) Moffat and William Moffat (Kim Stewart). Sisters: Renea (Jack Robert, Jr.) Schomer and Debbie Zeiler Breskovic (Drew). Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends – near and far. In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his stepmother, Helen Moffat and stepfather, Joseph Tanzos. His first wife of 55 years, Alma Mae Moffat. Daughter, Melanie Sue Moffat. Sister, Nancy Lee Moffat. Friends are welcome Sunday, March 2, and Monday, March 3, 2025 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. A funeral service will be held Tuesday March 4, 2025 at 10 AM at Buena Vista Presbyterian Church 335 Styche St, Buena Vista, PA 15018 with his son-in-law, Steve Spitzer officiating.
