John Gombos Sr., age 86 of North Huntingdon, passed away on March 14, 2025 at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville. He was born on June 22, 1938 in Duquesne, a son of the late John and Jennie Gyure Gombos. John served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer. While stationed in France, John and his wife enjoyed travelling through Italy, spending time in Paris, and the Grotto in Laurds. He was a member of St. Agnes Church in North Huntingdon where he sang in the church choir, and a past treasurer for the annual St. Agnes Bazaar. John was also a former member of the Regent Square Rotary. John was employed as a driver for the Port Authority, and also in the field of bank management. Following his retirement, John worked as a bagger at Giant Eagle, where he looked forward to interacting with his customers and fellow employees. In his free time, he took pride in maintaining his lawn. Most of all, John was known as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel, and his niece Elise. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Pazehoski Gombos, one son John Jr. (Sherry), two daughters, Sharon Gombos and Susan Zurinsky (Jim), one brother, Russell Gombos (Judy), one sister-in-law Rose Gombos, three grandchildren, Justin (and fiancée Joelissa), Derek, and Claire. Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon on Monday from 2-7 PM. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Agnes Church on Tuesday at 9:30 AM followed by interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Irwin.
