Jennie Maki-Carothers, 98, a resident of Elizabeth Township for 70 years, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025 at home. She was born May 27, 1926 in Hamtramck, Michigan and was the daughter of the late John and Elenora (Romanski) Lazarz. She was the wife of 40 years to the late Toivo W. "Bill" Maki, who passed away in 1986 and was also the wife of over 4 years to the late Walter Carothers, who passed away in 1995. Jennie was a member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church. She loved to do dancing and bowling. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter with whom she resided, Sandra (Donald) McCall of Elizabeth Twp.; son, Roger (Linda) Maki of Easton, MD; grandchildren, Richard McCall, Karen (Scott) Snavely, Scott (Cathy) McCall, Jeff Maki, and Greg (Alexandra) Maki; 8 great-grandchildren; nephew, Tom (Mary) Rydel; and great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by sisters, Stella Barthelemy and Helen Ross; brother, Stephen Lazarz; and nephew, Joe Rydel. Friends are welcome on Wednesday, March 19 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township (412) 751-5000. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 20, at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Adam J. Stump, officiating. Private Interment will be held at Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth.
