Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | May 28, 2025

Alma J. Kaler, age 89, of McKeesport, died at home on May 27, 2025. born January 3, 1936, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late John Lincoln and Mary Magdalena (Strauss) Mackey and wife of the late Charles Kaler.

Alma's remarkable life was characterized by her unwavering commitment to family. Her daughter, Terri Kaler, will forever remember her mother's nurturing spirit and the countless sacrifices she made to ensure her family was always provided for. Alma's ability to create a warm and loving home was matched only by her talent for crocheting, through which she shared her love and creativity with those around her. Each stitch carried the essence of her care, and her creations will be treasured keepsakes for years to come. She worked for McKeesport Housekeeping and was a Teamsters Union member.

In addition to her crafts, Alma found joy in word searches, often seen with a pencil in hand, immersed in the quiet challenge they provided. Her gentle spirit and engaging laughter enriched the lives of everyone she met, and she served the Bryn Mawr Church of Christ not only as a member but also as a deaconess, touching the lives of many within her community.

She is survived by a daughter, Terri Kellas; granddaughter, Amy (Barbara Frew-Kellas) Kellas; great-grandson, Trevor Samuel Kellas; great-granddaughter, Anastasia Collien Barry; brother, Russell Mackey. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by sons, Charles and Daniel Kaler; sisters, Donna Mouring, Norma Mackey, Gertrude Smith, Dorothy Aigner, and Lois Franklin.

Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
