Rose Marie Wilkerson, age 78, of Newark, DE peacefully went home to be with the Lord on December 21, 2016.  Rose was born and raised in Clairton, PA to the late John and Barbara Popchak.  She and her late husband were blessed with five children and moved throughout the USA per his Air Force assignments.  Rose retired from the State of Delaware where she worked as a Senior Social Worker.  She was an avid reader, loved and rescued cats, and enjoyed playing the slots at Delaware Park.

Rose also cared for children as a foster mother and a crossing guard for New Castle County.  She was a kind and loving woman who treasured time with her family.

Rose is survived by her five children: son, John L. Wilkerson (Maria G.) and daughters: Linda Wilkerson-Hansen (Bill), Simone Mullins, Barbara J. Marquess, and Monica R. Rose (Bobby); brother, Robert Popchak; sister, Frances “Cookie” Bindas; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and her special friend, Susan Woodbury.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Popchak.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, December 29 from 1:30-3 PM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702.  A service in celebration of Rose’s life will follow at 3 PM.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Castaway Cats, www.castawaycatsde.com.   For directions or to send an online condolence visit www.stranofeeley.com
