Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | January 28, 2016
Joseph “Joey” Zavalydriga, age 61, of McKeesport, died at his home on Jan. 25, 2016. Born July 31, 1954, in Wilkinsburg, he was the son of Donna (Carouthers) Egenlauf and the son of the late Michael Egenlauf. He was the husband of the late Denise (Yeager McCully) Zavalydriga.
Joe was a truck driver for most of his life, having worked for Casturo Iron & Metal, John F. Scott Co and for himself, Joe Zavalydriga Trucking. He had also worked for Ryco, Inc. and Mon-Valley Recycling Center.
Earlier in life Joe enjoyed hunting with his brothers and as the years went on, he became an avid gardener. Blessed with a green thumb, he took pleasure in growing unique specimens and giving vegetables to family, friends and neighbors. Nothing in the world brought Joe more happiness and pride than watching his children grow, being a part of their lives and being a grandpap. Children always gravitated to him, as did most people, and it was because of his pleasant nature and incredible sense of humor. Joe could often be found spending time with his friends, brothers and sisters at the Prince Humbert Club in Duquesne and, in years past, at the Bowman and Marine Clubs.
In addition to his mother, Joe is survived by children, Michael (Tammy) of Indiana and Brandi of McKeesport; grandchildren, Georgina, Addison, Amanda, Jayden, Layton, Skylar, Donaven and Eric; great grandson, Alexander Erb, Jr.; siblings, Michael Egenlauf of McKeesport, Roy Egenlauf of North Versailles, Maryann (Joe) Hornfeck of Port Vue, Gary (Annette) of Weirton, W VA, Darlene (Roach) Richel of Port Vue, James (Kimberly) Egenlauf of North Versailles and Connie (Randy) Quiggle of Port Vue; and several nieces and nephews that loved him dearly. In addition to his father, Joe was preceded in death by daughter, Georgina (Erb) Harrigan and sister-in-law, Lucille Egenlauf.
Family and friends will be welcomed at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, Jan.29, 2016, from 6 p.m. until the hour of funeral service at 8 p.m. The Reverend Charissa Howe of Liberty Borough Presbyterian Church will officiate.
