Celinda Virginia McGavern, 98, of North Huntingdon, died Monday January 23, 2017 in Forbes Hospital . She was born December 6, 1918 in Philadelphia, and was the daughter of the late Louis H. and Lina Parker Forstner. She was the wife of the late William A. McGavern who died May 22, 2000. Along with her husband William, she was proprietor of the A-1 Sewer Cleaning Company, which is still in the family today.
She was a member of and instrumental in the starting of Christ United Methodist Church in North Huntingdon. Celinda, also known as "Ginny" was an accomplished piano player and performed on the radio with her brother, Louis Forstner in her youth. She was actively involved in earlier years with the Women's Society and Bible studies at the church. She will be sadly missed by many. She is survived by her sons, William A. “Mac” (Jeanne) McGavern, Jr., of Elizabeth Township and James A. McGavern of Castle Shannon, a proud grandmother to Dorian McGavern and Dr. Megan McGavern, as well as 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Louis H. Forstner. There is no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Christ United Methodist Church, 2800 Coulterville Road, McKeesport, PA 15131.
