Joan Deanna Dixon Williams Nickerson, 77, of Smithdale, Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017 in AHN Jefferson Hospital.

She was born January 28, 1940 in Smithdale, PA, daughter of the late John Dixon, Sr. and Mattie McBrayer Dixon. She was preceded in death by husband Cleveland Nickerson and siblings, Timothy Dixon, John Dixon, Jr., Ronald Dixon and Reginald Dixon.

Deanna was a devoted member of Bethlehem Baptist Church Smithdale, where she was the former Church Treasurer. She attended Essex County Community College of NJ, where she obtained her Associates degree in Information Technology and enjoyed organizing and participating in many community activities. She retired from the Newark Board of Education as a Senior Computer Operator.

Survivors include children, David Williams of Elizabeth, Terrence Williams of Elizabeth, NJ, Kevin Williams of Newark, NJ, DeWayne Nichols of Smithdale, David Nickerson of Newark, NJ, Carletta Nichols of Pittsburgh; siblings, Wilbur Dixon of San Bernardino, CA, Gloria (Thomas) Wilson of Smithdale; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends will be received Friday from 10:00 a.m. to Saturday 10:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2095 Smithdale Road, West Newton, Pennsylvania, where services will be held Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

Interment will follow in the Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth, Pennsylvania.
