John C. "Jack" Serena, 86, of West Mifflin, died Friday May 5, 2017. He was born June 9, 1930 in Homestead and was the son of the late Lawrence L. and Agnes Shaughnessy Serena. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in West Mifflin and was the church organist and CCD teacher there for many years. He was a volunteer for The Intersection, Meals on Wheels, Auberle Home, and Habitat for Humanity. He was retired from Consol Energy and was a US Navy Veteran. He was also a licensed pilot. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Schulte Serena, son, Thomas (Vilma) Serena of Bethesda, MD, daughters, Maribeth (Eric) Bastian of Glen Allen, VA, and Jane (Steven) Cannata of Stephenson, VA, grandchildren, Brianna, Nicholas, Ryan, Amanda, Kaelynn, Parker, Kendall, Michael and Joseph, great-grandson, Oliver, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, L. James Serena. Friends are welcome Sunday May 7 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak, (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday May 8 at 10 am in Holy Spirit Church. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, West Mifflin.
