Harry C. Opfer, Sr., age 90, of Elizabeth Township, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at home. He was a retired custodian with the Elizabeth Forward School District, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Bethesda United Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth, and he enjoyed woodworking and crafts. 

Born March 28, 1927 in Elizabeth Twp., he was a son of the late George and Sarah (Harrison) Opfer. He is survived by his wife, Nelda M. (Shoemaker) Opfer; daughters, E. Gayle (Emil) Sujeta of Elizabeth Twp. and Cynthia L. (Matthew) Mayersky of Elizabeth Twp.; son, Harry C. (Tamma) Opfer, Jr. of Belle Vernon; five grandchildren, Alan, Amanda, Melanie, Ashley and Amber; one great-granddaughter, Maranda; brother, Ralph (Janice) Opfer of Riverview, MI; sister, Doris Kerchner of Kansas; also nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Theodore, John and Howard Opfer and a sister, Luella M. “Sis” Opfer. Friends will be received in the Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, 221 North Second Avenue, Elizabeth on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 10 AM until the hour of service at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Walt Pietschmann officiating.
