Julius M. Bakos, Sr., age 94, formerly of McKeesport, died January 1, 2018, in Royersford, PA. Born June 10, 1923, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Michael and Rose (Homoki) Bakos and the husband of the late Theresa (Smith) Bakos.
Julius retired from the P.L.C.B., in 1985, with 15 years of service. In his early years he owned and operated the "Bakos Cafe," with his father for 19 years. He also worked at Ft. Pitt Foundry, for 5 years and US Steel National Tube Works, as a timekeeper for 5 years. He was US Army veteran, serving in the 3rd Armored Division Band in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He belonged to the Aliquippa Lodge #375, F&AM. Julius was born and raised in the Hungarian Reformed Church, where he served on council for many years and was Chief Elder at his churches Mortgage Burning Ceremony. He is survived by his grandaughter, Megan (Joe) Satalino of Royersford, PA; daughter-in-law, Janet Bakos of Moon Twp.; cousin, Joyce Petrlak of Hollywood, FL; and his faithful neighbor, Gay Lapsley. Family and friends will be received at the Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, January 5, 2018, from 9 a.m. until the time of the blessing service at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Daniel Borsay will officiate. Entombment will follow in the McKeesport & Versailles Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hungarian Reformed Church, 1001 University Dr., McKeesport, PA 15132.
