Mary "Baba" Barr, age 98, of Elizabeth, formerly of McKeesport, died February 23, 2018, at UPMC McKeesport. Born September 15, 1919, in Glassport, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth ( Kuburka) Komarnisky and the wife of the late Bernard T. Barr.
Baba dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church, where she was active in the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and Ladies Guild. She was a volunteer at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, where she was a Pierogi maker. Baba enjoyed traveling, although her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She will always be remembered for her religious faith. Baba is survived by her children, Thomas E. "Tut" (Virginia) Barr of Dunnellon, FL and Rebecca A. "Becky" Peterson of Elizabeth; grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew (Kara) Peterson all of Elizabeth; great grandchildren, Avery and Harper; 3 step-granddaughters; also nieces and nephews. Baba was also preceded in death by her son, Anthony A. Barr; brothers, John, Michael V., Robert, Andrew and George Komarnisky. Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, February 28, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 1, 2018, 10 a.m., at Corpus Christi Church. Fr. Steven M. Palsa will be the celebrant. Committal will follow in McKeesport & Versailles Cemetery.
