Charles Bowie, age 82, of Port Vue, died July 21st, 2018, at UPMC McKeesport.
Born March 28th, 1936, in Uniontown, he was the son of the late Hanson R. Jr. and Roberta (Seaton) Bowie and the husband of Virginia (Laughlin) Bowie.
Chuck retired from the U.S. Steel, Clairton Works, with over 40 years of employment in the accounting department. An active member of Port Vue United Methodist Church, he served on the board of directors, held administrative positions over the decades and was often called upon to be church narrator. Chuck freely volunteered his time to church and community. For 18 years he helped with the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, was president and 30 year member of Clairton AARP, and served on the Clairton Works Credit Union Board of Directors. It was Chuck’s family, and especially playing with his grandchildren, that brought him his greatest joy.
In addition to Virginia, survivors include, daughters, Marjorie (Gregory) Gribschaw, of Lake Frederick, VA and Laura (Gregory) Matta, of McKeesport; grandchildren, Matthew Gribschaw, Steven Matta, Grace (Robert) Rump, Alex Matta and Mark Matta; great grandchildren, Nathan and Maxton Gribschaw, Santino, Alivia, Jackson and Lillian Rump; sisters, Cynthia (Jay) Coats and Roberta Jean Warnick, both of Lady Lake, FL; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, granddaughter, Beth Ann Gribschaw.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday form 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at Port Vue United Methodist Church.
