William E. McCorkle Jr., age 78, of Dania Beach, FL passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at home. He was an emeritus professor of Physics and Astronomy after more than 33 years of teaching at West Liberty State College in West Liberty, WV. A former member of Elizabeth United Methodist Church, he was a graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School, Washington & Jefferson College and West Virginia University. He was a consultant for Prentice Hall Publishing Company and was twice recognized as an outstanding educator of America. He was a member of the American Association of Physics Teachers, American Institute of Physics, Delta Chi Social Fraternity, Chi Beta Phi, and AARP.

Born February 15, 1940 in McKeesport, he was a son of the late William E. McCorkle Sr. and the late Sara (Lonkosky) McCorkle. He is survived by his domestic partner, Carlos L. Cifuentes, with whom he resided; also, cousins. No visitation is planned. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 12 Noon in the chapel of Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp., with Pastor Jude Urso officiating.
