Stearl W. Cauley, age 91 , of Port Vue, died October 6, 2018, at home. Born March 17, 1927, in Donora, Coal Bluff, he was the son of the late Joseph and Irene (Mucci) Cauley and the husband of his beloved late wife Dorothy (Myers) Cauley.
Stearl W. Cauley, age 91 , of Port Vue, died October 6, 2018, at home. Born March 17, 1927, in Donora, Coal Bluff, he was the son of the late Joseph and Irene (Mucci) Cauley and the husband of his beloved late wife Dorothy (Myers) Cauley. Stearl was retired from US Steel Edgar Thomson Works of Braddock, where he was a supervisor with 38 years of service. He was also an employee of US Steel Clairton Works and US Steel Gary Works. He then retired from the Catholic Diocese, where he worked at St. Peters, Holy Trinity and Sacred Heart Parishes. Graduate of Massanutten Military Academy. US Army veteran, serving as a Ranger in the Asian South Pacific, during the Korean War. Stearl was a proud member of the 11th Airborne, 188th and 187th. He received a Purple Heart with 2 clusters Combat Infantry Badges, Bronze Star with V for Valor, 4 Bronze Battle Stars. After the war he attended and graduated Waynesburg College and later CCAC. Stearl was a member of the Knights of Columbus McKeesport Council 955, Dravosburg Fire Hall # 1, American legion Post 447 of Port Vue and Italian Sons and Daughters of America, lodge 57 of McKeesport. He is survived by his daughter, Andrea (Dave) Matta of Port Vue; grandchildren, Paul (Rachel) Matta of Hollywood, CA, Dustin Matta of Port Vue and Pam Beatty of Glassport; 2 great grandchildren; siblings, Betty Wood of MA and Adam Cauley of Castleberry, FL; great ganddogs, Jack and Girl; also many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife , he was also preceded in death by son, Melvin "Butchie" O'Dell; brother, Ellard Cauley, and most recent, sister Norma Hall of MA. Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, October 11, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, 10 a.m., at St. Mark Parish, Port Vue site.
