William C. Stokes, age 64, of Coulters, PA, died June 25, 2019, at UPMC Shadyside. Born April 20, 1955, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Frank and Mildred (Knortz) Stokes and the husband of Susan M. (Gasparovic) Puhala Stokes.
Bill retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked as front window clerk, at the East McKeesport Post Office and then the North Side Distribution Center, where he was an Electronic Technician. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a medic during the Vietnam War. He was a McKeesport Girl's Softball coach for over 15 years and an avid Pittsburgh Sports fan. Bill also enjoyed golfing, camping, and most of all, spending time with his loving family.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his children, Bobbie (Jeffery) List of McKeesport, Dan (Cortney Andrews) Puhala of McKeesport, Jessica (Mike Wagner) Bush of Turtle Creek, Carolynn (Marc) Nixdorf of Export and Carrie (Brian) Puhala Loera of Liberty Borough; grandchildren, Courtney, Danielle, Kendall, Kenzie, Jayla, Sterling, Alyssa, Ryleigh, Kaylee, Austin, Maddie and Charlie; brother, Bob (Donna) Stokes of Plum Borough, step-sister, Becky Laird of North Versailles; many nieces and nephews; his "Ace In The Hole”, Jim Finella, and his furry four-legged “Buddy”.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Frank Kandcer; sister, Carol Stokes; step-brother, Russ Cibak; friend and brother, Joseph "Buddy Joe" Gasparovic.
Bill’s family would like to honor his love of sports, by everyone wearing Pittsburgh Sports gear and jeans to the funeral home.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, June 28, 2019, from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m., in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Marty Smith will be the celebrant.
Inurnment at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will take place at a later date.
