Donald R. Szymarek, age 78, of White Oak, died July 30, 2019, at Mt. Vernon of Elizabeth. Born September 5, 1940, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Ferchak) Szymarek and the husband of Eileen (Boullion) Szymarek.
Don was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard with 30 years of service. After serving our country, he worked for the Cornelius Co., of Etna, where he installed signs and painted. In his later years, Don worked at NAPA Auto Parts as a delivery driver. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Church. Don was also a member of the White Oak American Legion Post #701.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his children, Shari (Scott) Smith of White Oak and Don Szymarek of McKeesport; grandchildren, Lynsey, Justin, and Kristen; great-grandchild, Aubrielle; sister, Geraldine (Duane) Gatto of GA; sister-in-laws, Joan (Dave) Algeri of Versailles Borough, Sandy Warren and Debbie Piekielek both of White Oak; also nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Joann Monfils.
Family and friends will be received at the Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, August 1, 2019, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held on Friday, 10 a.m., in the funeral home chapel.
Military honors and inurnment will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at a later date.
