Laura Lee Coates McClain, age 93, formerly of Finleyville, died August 31, 2019, ather daughter's home in Port Vue. Born August 16, 1926, in Hague, VA, she was the daughter of the late Adaler Bliss Coates, Sr. and Thelma Lewis Coates Sanford and the wife of the late James Allen McClain.

She was proud of being born in Westmoreland County, Virginia (George Washington's birthplace) and as it turns out, she was a cousin of the first president and a descendant of the first settlers of Jamestown.
Laura worked as a private duty registered nurse. She was a United States Air Force veteran, serving as an officer and registered nurse during the Korean War.  She was a devout Christian and a member of the Mentor Road Bible Church in Forward Township.  Laura loved spending time with her family, reading, hot fudge sundaes and enjoyed her pets.
Survivors include her children, Kena Gwynn Kiesell of Port Vue, James Allen McClain, Jr. of Port Vue, William Erie (Kim) McClain of Dumfries VA, and Sonya Simone (Charles) Hazelwood of Burke, VA; grandchildren, Sasha, Michael, Charles, Allen, Alexander, Max, and Laura; great-grandchildren, Miscia, Kaiden and Davin.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings Adaler Coates, Jr. and Elwood Coates and her beloved son-in-law Edward Kiesell.
Family and friends will gather at Willig Funeral Home and Crematory on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at 11 a.m. Procession to the cemetery will leave at 11:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will be held at 12:30 p.m., in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
