Melvin D. "Rod" Holmes, age 84, of Dravosburg, died September 24, 2019, at Mt. Vernon of Elizabeth. Born May 3, 1935, in Dravosburg, he was the son of the late Charles Holmes and Ethel (McCombs) Bell and the husband of the late Elsie (Lynn) Holmes.
Melvin was a retired from Long's Hauling, where he was a truck driver. He was a member of the American Legion Post #380. His greatest joy was spending time with family.

Melvin is survived by his children, Dianna (Jeffrey E.) Bomba of West Mifflin and Charles (Kim) Holmes of West Mifflin; grandchildren, Jeffrey R. (Damian Boros) Bomba, Megan (Zach) Powers, Brittany Holmes, Breanne Holmes, Chelsea Holmes, Corey (Dawnice) Holmes and Kristina (Joshua) Stegena; also nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Melvin was also preceded in death by his son, Duane Holmes.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, September 26, 2019, from 3 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 5 p.m., in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Jody Dausey will officiate. Inurnment will be in Richland Cemetery at a later date.
