Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory

Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | October 14, 2019

On October 11, 2019, at age 77,  John G. (Johnny) Sowa's soul soared to heaven where his life began on his cherished homestead in White Oak, PA.  He was married to his beloved sweetheart of 51 years, Virginia "Ginna" (Mull), and he was the adored father to his three girls.  Born on August 20, 1942,  he was the son of the late John and Veronica (Pichura), Sowa.

John was the owner and operator of Sowa Auto Body and Jon's Cars Inc. in McKeesport. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Vietnam War.  John celebrated his faith as a member of  Journey by Grace Free Methodist Church of Belle Vernon. Throughout his life he loved building his hot rods, going to classic car shows and strolling the flea markets. He was incredibly proud of his family and his home, where he could often be found in the field on one of his tractors or tinkering in his garage.  Known for his sarcasm, John will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will be fondly remembered for cruising down the streets of McKeesport in one of his many classic cars.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Ryan) Obenhoff of Stuart, FL, Susan (Cosimo Jr.) Sowa Bisceglia and Julie (Kristopher) Nowading of White Oak; grandchildren, Timothy, Zachary, Hannah, Elin, Bridget, and Kristopher; sisters, Elinore Freeman of Beaufort, SC and Kathleen (Richard) Graig of Garner, NC, and many nieces, nephews and Polish cousins. John was also preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Michael.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be celebrated Wednesday, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home chapel. Committal prayers and burial will follow in McKeesport & Versailles Cemetery.
