Richard P. Moran, 81, of Scottdale, Arizona, formerly of Duquesne, died unexpectantly at home on Monday, January 6, 2020. Born in Duquesne on July 17, 1938, he was the son of the late John P. and Anna (Matura) Moran. Mr. Moran was a retired Duquesne School teacher and coached Basketball at Duquesne High School for 16 years, compiling an impressive 273-156 record.
He won 6 WPIAL Championships, 2 PIAA State Championships and 8 section championships. Under Rich's tutelage, 5 of his players reached the prestigious 1000 point club. Rich won numerous Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and McKeesport Daily News Coach of the Year awards.
He was also a former member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in West Mifflin.
He is survived by his loving wife Jaqueline "Jackie (Bookshar) Moran, sons, John (Tracy) Swenglish, Joseph (Denise) Swenglish and Jeff Swenglish, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a brother John "Jack" Moran, nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Swenglish Nottingham, a grandson David Daniels and a Brother, Lawrence Moran.
Family and friends will be received in the William S. Skovranko Memorial Home , Inc. 828 Richford Street at Commonwealth Ave., Duquesne from 6-8 P.M. on Saturday January 11, 2020 and 2-4 and 6-8P.M. on Sunday January 12, 2020. A Blessing service will be conducted in the Memorial Home on Monday January 13, 2020 at 10A.M. with Rev. Michael Conway officiating.
