Josephine (Certo) Ponsi, 105, a resident of Redstone Highlands, Greensburg, formerly of Forest Hills, died Sunday June 12, 2016 at Family Hospice, Pittsburgh. She was born August 13, 1910 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Joseph and Armida (Simone) Certo and was also preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Dizre Ponsi, and siblings, Salvatore, Mauro (the late Angie), and Jennie Certo.

Along with her late husband she operated D. Ponsi Shoes, Braddock, until 1976. She was an active member of Swissvale Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for over sixty years and served as a deacon and elder. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Swissvale Chapter, serving twice as Worthy Matron. She is survived by her son, Joseph D. Ponsi Sr. and his wife Nancy; grandchildren, Nancy Jo (Thomas) Baker, Cheryl (Dave) Robison, and Joseph D. (Filippa) Ponsi II; great grandchildren, Elana Gonzales (Tim), Tessa Meehan (Chad), Kristopher Robison, Abby Baker, Matt Robison, and Ian Baker; a sister in law, Ann Marie Certo; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the William Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Swissvale Presbyterian Church with Rev. Melissa Morris, officiating. Interment will follow in Allegheny Cemetery.
