Bernice Truesdale, 95, loving daughter of the late James and Elizan Smith, departed this life on May 5, 2020 at Kane Regional Medical Center, McKeesport.
“Mrs. Bernice” was born on July 8, 1924, in Sumter, South Carolina. In 1940, she met and married Henry Truesdale in Sumter, South Carolina. Shortly thereafter, they joined the Great Migration and came North, seeking a better life. They eventually settled in Duquesne, Pa. where they became staunch members of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was a regular attendee of Macedonia Baptist Church services. Additionally, she was an active member of the Kitzie Clemmons club and also the Phyllis Wheatley Society where she served as a former president. She was warm-hearted, compassionate and giving. She genuinely cared for people and always gave sensible, steady advice when asked. She prided herself on being well-dressed and always greeted everyone with a kind word.
In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Truesdale, and children Larry Truesdale and Doris Ann Goff.
