Shawn R. Hitchens, age 64, of White Oak formally of Liberty Borough died June 27, 2020, at home. Born October 12, 1955, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Earl Maxwell and Betty (Robinson) Hitchens and the husband of Melinda (Marovich) Hitchens.
Shawn graduated from South Allegheny High School, then Triangle Institute of Technology and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He was the owner of S.R. Hitchens Refrigeration and Alliance Refrigeration. Shawn taught RHVAC at Steel Center VoTech and All-State Career school and was a journeyman at Steamfitters Local Union 449. He was a musician, playing the guitar, writing his alternative music, and went by the name "Heyoukid." He played softball for many leagues, and everyone there knew him as "Hitch 42". He loved to watch old movies, comedies and especially loved Steelers and Penguins games.
In addition to his wife, Shawn is survived by his children, Bryce Hitchens of White Oak, Julie (Dan) Bressan of Penn Township, Megan Rhodes-Plants (Brian Plants) of Donora and Jessica Hitchens of Greenock; grandchildren, Avangeline, Aiden, Anderson, Julian, Lillian, and Brock; siblings, Kerry DiBatista of North Huntingdon, Darin Hitchens of Port Vue, Shane
Hitchens of Port Vue and Shari Lanave of Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Reverend Bruce Judy will officiate. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Center of Organ Recovery and Education, 204 Sigma Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.
