Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | July 17, 2020

LaQuay Mack-Oden, 37, of McKeesport, departed this life on July 13, 2020, at UPMC Shadyside. She was also preceded in death by her grandmother Mildred Mack, cousins John and Cedric Mack.

LaQuay, daughter of Karen Mack Jones and Sam Magwood, was born on September 21, 1982. She spent much of her childhood in Brooklyn, NY and the other half growing up in McKeesport, PA. LaQuay graduated from McKeesport Area High School in 2000 and furthered her education by receiving a bachelor’s degree at Perdue University Global and a degree in Cosmetology from Empire Beauty School. LaQuay worked as a Central Scheduler for Excela.

LaQuay loved to sing, write music, and dance; she embraced all types of artistry. She had an eye for fashion; very trendy and loved to create different outfits. She often created outfits for her friends. She truly loved the Lord and was a member of the Fountain of Life Church in Hazelwood, PA.

LaQuay is survived by her children: Aionna Mack and Rhianna Oden; Parents: Karen Jones and Sam Magwood; Brother: Richard Mack (Jessica); Sisters: Lashelle Kimber and Candace

Bowman; Special sister-friends Shayla, Bailee, Ashley, Amanda, and Christine; Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and Friends, and a host of people whose lives have been touched by her kind words of encouragement, random acts of kindness and truly sincere prayers. She was truly committed to uplifting others despite the numerous battles she faced. Never complaining and faith never wavering, she took one day at a time, being sure to praise the Lord in the midst of it all. She absolutely loved life and wanted to live it to the fullest. She was a giver and not a receiver. She aspired to travel and truly loved to make people feel beautiful. That is why she enjoyed cosmetology so much.

Every day she lived and every move she made was for her daughters. She was dedicated to them. She taught them to be as humble, kind, and giving to others as she was. She taught them that everything they want, they must work for. Instilling an awesome work ethic and motivation to always do the best they can in whatever it is they do.
