Shirley Frances "Fran" (Whittington) Smith, 84, of Rostraver, formerly of Buena Vista, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020. She was born May 5, 1936 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late William E. and Elizabeth Mae (Girard) Whittington. She was the wife of the late H. Jere Smith who passed away November 28, 2005.

Fran was a member, Elder and choir member of the Liberty Presbyterian Church and also was a member and Elder of the Buena Vista Presbyterian Church where she was also youth choir director. She was a graduate of Grove City College and was a retired English Teacher at the South Allegheny High School. Fran loved spending time at her second home at Canadohta Lake and cruising and vacationing with her husband, Jere. She loved her many pets over the years and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Julie and Ben. She is survived by her son, Scott D. (Lisa) Smith of Mount Vernon, daughter, Susan (Shawn) Fowler of Canadohta Lake, sister, Nancy Hoffman of Rostraver, grandchildren, Julie and Benjamin Smith, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth McGrail. Friends are welcome Monday, September 7, 2020 from 1-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. (412) 751-5000 Drew J.
