Barbara Opat, age 67, of the Rosedale section of Verona, formerly of Duquesne, passed away on December 10, 2020, at home. Born in Vinski Vrh, Croatia on October 21, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Dragutin & Marica T. (Tomas) Spudic. Barbara was a retired clerical worker for the Croatian Fraternal Union for 40 years, a member of St. Joseph Church, Verona, longtime member of the former Sacred Heart Parish, McKeesport and a 1973 graduate of Serra High School. She loved the outdoors, walking, yoga & the Tamburitzans. She was the beloved wife of Michael Opat for 46 years; mother of Susan (Jeff) Ezykowsky Sr. of West Mifflin and Nicole (Michael) Zalac of Harrison City; “Mimi” to her two grandchildren Jeffrey Ezykowsky Jr. and Brooks Zalac; sister of John Spudic of North Huntingdon and Walter (Valerie) Spudic of Pine Richland; and aunt of Charley & Eddy Spudic. There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Church, Duquesne, on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Conway officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Mifflin. Arrangements entrusted to the MALOY-SCHLEIFER FUNERAL HOME, DUQUESNE, 412-466-3300. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
