John William Ivaska, 85,of White Oak, passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 at home. He was born April 2, 1935 in Duquesne and was the son of the late Jozef and Emelia (Ursin) Ivaska. John was a US ARMY veteran and earned the Good Conduct Medal. He worked for many years as a machinist at numerous places and retired from PEI in Munhall. He was a member of the former St. Mark Lutheran Church in Duquesne and was currently attending Sampson's Mills Presbyterian Church in White Oak.

He was an avid Steelers fan who enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. He is survived by his wife of over 11 years, Carolyn L. (Cannon) Ivaska, daughter, Suzanne (Mark) Wilhelm of White Oak, son, William Mellinger of White Oak, son-in-law, Steve Ferris of Belle Vernon, sister, Irene Kalman of West Chester, brother, Larry (the late Nancy) Ivaska of Fayetteville, GA, grandchildren, Emma, Stephen and Ethan Wilhelm, Jessica Ferris, Regis, William and Andrew Mellinger, Danielle Chorik and Kaylee Holtzman, great-grandchildren, Maddie and Molly Chorik and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by, his first wife Lynne (Warren) Ivaska, daughters, Jennifer Ferris and Tracey Holtzman, brothers, Joseph, Albert and Walter Ivaska and sisters, Emily Dewyer and Anna Jackson. Friends are welcome from Thursday, January 7, 2021, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director. Funeral service will be held immediately following visitation with Pastor Jessica McClure Archer, officiating. Private inurnment will be held at the Jefferson Memorial Park at a later date.
