Ermis A. "Herman" Socrates, age 94, of Martinez, GA, formerly of McKeesport, died February 16, 2021, at home. Born November 6, 1926, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late James C. and Anna (Mandula) Socrates and the husband of the late Mildred (Donahoe) Socrates.
Herman retired from US Steel National Tube Works, where he was a Millwright. He was a US Army veteran serving during WWII. He was a member of the White Oak American Legion Post # 701. He enjoyed reading and caring for his family. Herman was a hardworking family man that was always there to lend a hand.

He is survived by his children, William (Kathleen) Socrates of Martinez, GA, and Debbie (Frank) Gray of Elizabeth Twp.; grandchildren, Kristina (Chris) Gripko, Franklin Gray, Robert (Katy) Mei, Julianna Gray, and Andrew Socrates; great-grandchildren, Brayden Barnhart, Annabelle and Jacob Gripko; sister, Virginia Shipley of North Huntingdon; also many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Herman was also preceded in death by his siblings, Chris, Louis Socrates, and Lillian (Socrates) Schroeder.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Mary, Mother of God Parish, St. Angela Merici Church. Committal prayers, military honors, and burial will follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.
