Lawrence "Larry" Edward Bjornberg, 89, of Elizabeth Township, died Tuesday, August 2, 2016. He was born April 22, 1927 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Harry and Emma Gernhardt Bjornberg. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in McKeesport, White Oak American Legion Post 701, the Syria Shriners , Scottish Rite, Caravan No. 20, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Al-O-Mon Forrest 138, Masonic Veterans, Knights of Mecca Past Masters Club and the Duquesne-McKeesport F & AM Lodge # 731 where he was a Past Master. Larry was a WWII US Navy Veteran serving on board the USS Macon and was retired from US Steel Duquesne Works.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Jane Llewellyn Bjornberg, daughters, Susan Diane Bjornberg-Smith (George R. Smith, Jr.) of White Oak and Karen Louise Fowler of Nakina, NC, grandchildren, Lindsey Sue Wolfe and Reese Austin Fowler, great-grandson, Jordin Andrew Wolbert, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John F. Bjornberg, sister, Harriet Wood and son-in-law, Jimmy Dale Fowler. Friends are welcome Thursday August 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. (412-751-5000) Drew J. Gilbert, Director. Masonic service will be held Thursday at 7:30 pm. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, August 5, at 11:00 am with Pastor Warren Smith, officiating.
