George V. “Chum” Kollar, age 91, of Glassport, passed away peacefully in his home on January 11, 2016. George was born August 12, 1924, in Van Voorhis, PA, to the late John and Anna (Smolchek) Kollar. He is survived by his wife Geraldine (Macko) Kollar of 61 years; daughters; Cynthia (Ronald) Kulczynski of Elizabeth, Judy (Chris) Kelly of Columbia, MD and Pam (William) Oravec of Finleyville; grandchildren, MacKenzie, Ava and Grace; and siblings, Anna Mae (Andy) Karija of Tampa, FL, Edward (Marian) Kollar of Jefferson Hills and Rita (Matt) Milcic of Conway, PA. George was preceded in death by ten siblings.
George was an airplane and engine mechanic for the US Army Air Force during World Was ll. His Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and World War ll Victory Ribbon aided in his achievement of an honorary lifetime member of the Glassport American Legion, Post #443 for the last 62 years. Following his tour of duty, George worked for and retired from Ryan Homes as a construction supervisor. His unique smile, sense of humor, work ethic and compassion for life will be missed by those lives he touched with laughter, joy and kindness.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Willig Funeral Home & Crematory in McKeesport. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate George’s life on Friday, January 15, 2016, 10 a.m., at St. Mark Parish in Liberty Borough.
A funeral procession for burial with full military honors will be at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA and will leave the Willig Funeral Home & Crematory at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, his wife suggests donations to St. Mark Parish, 1125 Romine Ave., McKeesport, PA 15133 or a charity of your choice.
