Janet M. Carr, age 72, Liberty Borough, died August 19, 2016, at UPMC Presbyterian. Born March 5, 1944, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Gash E. and Julia (Tukot) Mains and the wife of the late Jack “Hammer” Carr.
Janet retired from Mellon Bank, where she worked in the accounting department. She was a former member of the West Side United Methodist Church, in the Tenth Ward of McKeesport. She was also a member of the former Liberty Borough Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, visiting the casino and her soap operas. Janet loved to cook her specialties for family and friends. She was best known for her Dutch lettuce, potato salad and spaghetti sauce.
Janet is survived by children, John (Gordana) Carr of Frederick, MD and JoAnn Mayfield of Liberty Borough; grandchildren, Julia, Crystal and P.J. (Emma); great granddaughter, Morgan; brother, Gash Mains of Liberty Borough; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Jody Dausey officiating. Inurnment in Mt. Vernon Cemetery at a later date.
