Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | November 23, 2021

Dennis John McCarthy, 70, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was born May 28, 1951 in McKeesport and was the son of the late John F. and Fanica (Mihaljevic) McCarthy. He was a member of St. Agnes Church in North Huntingdon and was a retired teacher from the Norwin School District where he taught at the Elementary and Intermediate schools. He graduated from California State College and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the National Educational Association and the 3FE Toyota Land Cruiser organization. Denny's most loved hobbies included camping with his family, traveling North America and Ireland, making home-cooked meals, working with his hands, and "pinching pennies but buying a Lexus." Arguably, his favorite pastime was stirring the pot and his ornery laugh will be missed by all his friends and family. Through all of his life he met many struggles but never let them hold him back.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Ann (Ayres) McCarthy, daughter, Sara (Matt) Holmes and son, Paul (Julie) McCarthy of North Huntingdon, grandchildren, Madelaine Holmes, Ronan, Maeve and Tomás McCarthy, sisters, Claire (Joe) Strouse of Williamsport, Patricia McCarthy of New Market, NH, and Jacqueline (John) Kittel of Spokane, WA, brother, Paul (Madeline) McCarthy of White Oak and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne McCarthy who passed away October 11, 2021. He will be greatly missed by all. There is no visitation. Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak. (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director. Condolences may be made at Gilbertfuneralhomeandcrematory.com
