Regis T. “Rege” McLaughlin, age 82, of McKeesport, died August 23, 2016, at Family Hospice in Mt. Lebanon. Born January 15, 1934, in Clairton, he was the son of the late Catherine (McLaughlin) Reynolds and the husband of the late Margaret (Baglos) McLaughlin.
Rege dedicated much of his life to serving his community. He was McKeesport’s mayor from 2010 to 2012; 13-year city council member and past council president from 2004 to 2009, past sewage authority chairman for many years, cofounder, coach and umpire of McKeesport Little League, with one of his teams in the Little League World Series.

Rege was the owner of the former “Rege’s Place” on Sinclair St., a U.S. Steel retiree, with 30 years of employment at National Tube Works and a long time WPIAL high school basketball referee. Rege joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He attended Wichita State University, graduated from McKeesport High School in 1952, lettered in football, basketball and track and played on the Christy Park Panthers sandlot football team. Rege credited The McKeesport Boys and Girls Club in the 1940’s for fostering his love of sports and sense of community. His memberships included the American Legion, Post 361, McKeesport and Post 701, White Oak, Croation Club, EBA, Swedish Singing Society, First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union, GAPA Club, AOH Club, Palenese Club, Archer Hill Duck Pin League, Aztec Bowling League, Stanko’s Slow Pitch Hall of Fame and 3rd Ward Crimson Hall of Fame. To sum up his life, Rege loved all things McKeesport. Among his dearest memories were those of dancing with his beloved wife, Marge, to the oldies.
Survivors include step daughter, Deborah (John) Bazzone of Gulfport, MS; step grandchildren, Dr. Lindsey E. Bazzone, MD PhD of Worcester, MA, Michael J. (Rachel) Bazzone of Fairfax, VA; step great grandchildren, Noah, Amelia, Lucy, Iris and Violet; cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Regis was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas and Kenneth Reynolds.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home on Sunday from 12-4 and 7-9 p.m and the Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Father Vincent Velas and Father Thomas Dansak on Monday, 10:00 a.m., at St. Patrick Church in Christy Park. Committal service, military honors and interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Port Vue. Memorials are suggested to the LaRosa Boys and Girls Club in McKeesport.
