Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | December 08, 2021

Joan S. Henderson, 89 of Versailles, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. She was born September 25, 1932 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Earl and Bernice (Inks) Kalkbrenner. She was the wife of the late Harry Henderson. Joan was a well-loved member of the McKeesport Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for some 80 years. She had worked for the former Continental Can Company, and for many years as an integral member of the family business, West Penn Cleaning Company.

She is survived by her children, Colleen (William) Maize of Versailles and Cheryl (James) Lane and James Pemberton of Boston, as well as grandchildren Ashley and Joshua Montrenes, Jessica Pemberton-Hoffman, and Hannah Pemberton, and great-grandson Matthew Hoffman. Joanie inspired music in her 3 children and grandchildren as well as in the many to whom she gave piano lessons. She was always creative with her hands, beginning with the making of her children’s school clothes, to a life-long passion for creating beautiful gifts for others. She sent many cards of love and appreciation to others and sat down each day to record her thoughts in her gratitude journal. Joanie had a tender spot in her heart for animals, and a special delight for children. She will always be remembered and missed for her kindness, love, and generosity. Private visitation and service took place Monday, December 6, 2021 at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. (412) 751-5000 Drew J.
