Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | February 01, 2022

Stephen W. Collins, 72, peacefully answered the Lord's call to come home after a long battle of illness at Forbes Hospital.  Stephen was surrounded with prayer during his transition by his Pastor Paul Waite, his niece Tee, and cousins Ronay and Thelma.

Stephen was born on July 22, 1949, in Kearneysville, West Virginia to the late Paul "Pete" Ross, Sr., and Alice L. Washington.  Stephen was raised by the late John Collins and Lucinda Washington-Collins whose name he carried.

Stevie loved the Lord and accepted Him as his Lord and Savior, and he loved the house of the Lord!  St. Paul A.M.E Church is where he took pride serving as the President of the Nurse's Guild, member of the Steward Board, the Finance Committee, Senior Choir, and the Culinary ministry.  Stevie loved his kitchen he was most famously known for his greens and cabbage!

Upon graduation from Westinghouse Memorial High School of East Allegheny Schools in 1967, Stevie headed to Hartford, Connecticut where he held various jobs.  Stevie returned to the Crestas area to care for his aging father.

Stevie became a foster parent after the passing of his father through Auberle of McKeesport. Stevie became affectionately known as Dad and proudly called Jonathan Williams son whom he loved dearly.

Stevie was employed by FamilyLinks as a cook and mentor. Stevie loved to help others it was so fitting when he found himself volunteering at the Food Bank for 25 years along with his friend Claire. Stevie joins his sister Sheila Faye Washington and nephew Juan Andre Washington.

His love and memories will forever be cherished by niece Yawatta Sayles (Jeff) of North Versailles, Pa.; his great-nephew AJ Sayles, Jr. (Kayla) of McKeesport, Pa.; his great-niece Najla Sayles of McKeesport, Pa.; his great-great niece Mylah Wheeler and his road dog Shaydie; siblings Rose Marie McDowell, Deborah Hill, Wanda Letang, Wayne Ross, Brian Ross and Paul Ross, Jr.; lifelong best friend cousin Linda Kay Bradford; Uncle Oscar Washington, Sr.; Uncle Lawrence Ross all of Kearneysville, WV and a host of well-loved cousins and many loving friends.
