Dorothy Cheran Podbesek, age 95, of Rilton, entered her eternal life on Tuesday, September 6, 2016.
She was born March 6, 1921 in Yukon,Pa., the daughter of the late Peter and Milka Cheran. On July 27, 1947, she married Martin Podbesek who preceded her in death on October 5, 1984. Dorothy was a lifetime member of the Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church, Youngwood, where she was well-known for her delicious baked goods and elaborately decorated kolach for holidays and feast days. She was active in the Kolo Srpskih Sestara and a lifetime member of the Rilton VFW 8518 Ladies Auxilliary. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Martin Jr.; four sisters, Martha Simich, Mildred Tishma, Zora Cheran and Sarah Komljenovich; four brothers, Steve, Alex, Mike and Roy Cheran. She is survived by her son, Roy Podbesek and his wife, Katherine; grandson, Martin (Jennifer); granddaughther, Nancy; great-granddaughters, Sophia and Anna; sister, Ann Vranesivic; brother-in-law, Don; and several loving and devoted nieces and nephews of whom she cherished for enhancing her life throughout her years. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA. A service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church, Youngwood, PA, with Fr. Ruman officiating. PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH.
