Alma Jean Barton, 92, of Elizabeth Twp, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, March 12, 2022. She was born September 2, 1929, in Portage, Pa. and was the daughter of the late Freeman E. and Melda S. George. She was a charter member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church. She worked at G.C. Murphy Co. as an executive assistant and two positions with Elizabeth Forward school district as secretary at Yough Elementary and later as AV coordinator at the high school. She was active with the boy scouts and in the high school band booster organization. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Queen Aliquippa chapter. Alma was an avid reader who also enjoyed crocheting, crafts and traveling. Anyone who knew Alma, knew of her love for her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edwin A., of 61 years. A beloved mother, she is survived by Karen S. (Gene) Cline of Hunker, Debra J. (Bill) Paranay of Kennerdell Pa, Edwin K. (Joanna) Barton and Gregory D (Cindy) Barton of North Huntingdon, Keith H. Barton of Elizabeth and Kirk A. Barton of Irwin, grandchildren, Jamie (Dave) Diehl, Kaitlyn Cline, Justin Barton, Dana Barton, Christopher Barton, Steven Cline, Seth Cline, Cristy (Jeff) Stipetic, Wendy (Ryan) Roskwitalski, Bill Paranay and Michael Paranay (Lindsey Cush), great-grandchildren, Timothy and Jason Diehl, Julia, Jeffrey and Charlotte Stipetic, Makenzie and Mason Roskwitalski, Billy Jr, Finnegan and Adelyn Paranay, Brayden Jackson and Riley Paranay, Paisley Modic (Cline) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters Lois Lauffer, Virginia Kyne, Peggy Stoll and brother Ronald George. Friends are welcome Thursday, March 17, 2022 form 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township (412)751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, director. Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, March 18, 2022, at 10am with Chaplain Donald G. Scandrol officiating. Internment will follow at the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
