Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | May 31, 2022

Marva Ann Mosby, 84, of McKeesport, was born May 12, 1938, in McKeesport, PA. She was the beloved daughter to the late Jesse and Anne E. (Johnson) Young.

A lifelong resident of McKeesport, she was a graduate of McKeesport High School (1956). In her youth, Marva played softball and played clarinet in the McKeesport High School band.

Marva was baptized at an early age and was a member of Zion Baptist Church for more than 70 years. She began what became her life’s passion, teaching Sunday School, while in high school and did so for more than 50 years. In addition to teaching her class, she also served as Sunday School Superintendent.

Marva was an avid bowler and won many trophies and awards. She even had an opportunity to appear on the Bowling for Dollars TV show. She was very involved with all her son's activities. In addition to attending baseball, basketball, and football games, she was involved with the McKeesport Little Tigers Mothers Club, and Band Parents and served on the board of the LaRosa Youth Club (McKeesport Boys Club).

She was very involved with family and friends, helping until her health no longer permitted. She also made awesome sweet potato pies and had a long list of customers.

Marva moved into Kane Community Living Center and completely immersed herself there. She became the President of the Residents Association and a Deaconess for the center's ministry. She became a confidant and advocate for other residents and employees.

Marva worked at the GC Murphy's warehouse, Fisher Body, and retired from Penn State McKeesport (2005).

Marva departed this life on May 27, 2022, at Kane Nursing Care Center. She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Young, mother, Anne E. (Johnson) Young, brothers, Jesse Young, Jr., Charles Young, C. Ralph Young, Lawrence Young, and sister, Cleo Johnson.

Marva is survived by her loving son, DeVonne Mosby of District Heights, MD; two sisters, Regina Thompson of Clairton, PA, Lucile Young of Regent Square, PA, niece Kelley Young of Regent Square, PA and goddaughter Jennifer Hall of Las Vegas, NV. She had a host of nieces and nephews, including niece Norma (GG) Allen of McKeesport, nephews Arthur Young and Bill Smith of Pittsburgh and great-nieces Janvier and Anya Lamont who were constantly there while she was at Kane.  She has numerous family members and close family friends who will miss her every day.
