Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | August 28, 2022

Gregory Michael Firda, 61 of Elizabeth Township, formerly of Lincoln Borough, passed away Friday, August 26, 2022 now at rest after a great fight with cancer. He was born on March 10, 1961 in McKeesport. He was a member of Sts. Joachim and Anne Parish-St. Michael Church in Elizabeth Township and was a 1979 graduate of St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Pleasant Hills. To many Greg was a true walking angel, and now will continue to be our angel in heaven to be reunited with his loving parents John Firda, and Agnes Bernadette (Behun) Firda. Greg is survived by his brother Jeffrey (Tammy) Firda of Lincoln Borough, nephew John Firda, nieces Alexis Firda and Avonlea (Blaine) Gergley, Ashley (Bradley) Domer who resembled to be his own daughter along with her children Bradley and Mateo who he deeply enjoyed the presence of till his last hours.

Right out of high school Greg followed in his fathers footsteps working for the Pennsylvania liquor control board, retiring there as a manager. If you know Greg, you know he was quiet, reserved, and completely selfless. Greg had a love for helping, giving to those who he felt needed him. He sought joy in giving, and in his friendships. It was natural for him to be selfless. You could always count on him to be there. His laugh was unique, and unforgettable with his elbow pushing you over with his silly jokes. Greg enjoyed life just as it was. He was pleasant and easy going. He just went with things as it came, even up till his last days. Greg put up a great fight to be here with us. Greg was not ready, he showed great strength in his fight but the Lord was waiting along with his parents, ready for him to join. Greg's work has been done here. Greg can now rest. Greg now and forever will be missed by all those who love him. Per Greg's wishes there will be no service to celebrate his life, but if you would like to celebrate his life as he celebrated life you could make a donation to any charity or organization your heart leads you too. There is no visitation. Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Port Vue. Arrangements are by Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. (412) 751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, director. Condolences may be made at Gilbertfuneralhomeandcrematory.com
