Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | December 16, 2022

Sally Elizabeth (Schiavo) Gooch of North Huntingdon, 61, passed away on December 15, 2022, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Born on December 25, 1960, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Sarah (Gault) Schiavo. She is survived by her loving husband, Paul Gooch.

Sally was a graduate of Clarion University, studying education. She was a devoted teacher at Saint Joseph Regional in Port Vue, PA, and Mary of Nazareth in White Oak, PA, teaching everything from science and history to preschool. She had a special passion for studying and teaching about World War II and The Holocaust. Each of her students meant the world to her; she loved seeing each of them grow over the years, even though she never got that red Corvette. She always wanted to be surrounded by her loved ones and laugh. Sally was the center of attention in any room and had a way of making everyone feel loved, heard, and understood. She loved to cook and showed her love in the kitchen, always ready to make a ham, lasagna, or the biggest pot of soup you’ve ever seen. When she needed a break in her social calendar, she enjoyed kicking back in her chair and watching The Price is Right or The Nanny. She loved traveling and shopping-including countless trips to Minnesota and the Mall of America. The light of her life was her grandson, Matthew and her favorite thing in the world was cuddling up and watching Elmo with him.
In addition to her husband, Sally is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Samantha) Gooch, Sarah (Shawn) Wilke, and William (Jordan) Gooch; grandson, Matthew Wilke; “damn dog,” Giacamo Gooch; sisters, Marie (Tom) Rose, Barb (Mike) Duffy, and Joanne (Harold) Fetch; brother, David (Donna) Schiavo; sisters-in-law, Teresa Schiavo, Dolores (Billy) Urbansky, Paula (Casey) Sleva, and Susie (John) Spanbaue; and many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Salvatore Schiavo; in-laws, Paul Sr. and Evelyn Gooch; sweet aunt, Rose Kwiecinski; charismatic, Armando “Uncle” Schiavo; great nephew, Kaleb Jenkins; dear friend, Matthew Bauman, and “damn dogs,” Deuce, Askem, and Winston.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, December 19, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10 a.m. at Mary, Mother of God, St. Angela Merici Church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Tree of Life Inc / Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh.
