Melvin Trkula, age 83, of McKeesport, died peacefully surrounded by his loving familly on Nov. 17, 2016.
He was born in Wilmerding on May 15, 1933 and is the son of the late Nicholas and Violet Radulovich Trkula. He received his Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961 and a Bachelor’s degree in administration and management science in 1970 from Carnegie Mellon University.
Mel served in the U.S. Navy Reserves, attended Real Estate School and obtained his license and was a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania. He worked at PPG, Westinghouse, Pittsburgh Corning, and retired from Jefferson Hospital as an administrator. He is a member of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in McKeesport, the Masonic Lodge #765 of E. McKeesport and the ASERBS and enjoyed gardening, golfing, traveling, listening to Serbian music and most of all spending time with his family.
Mel is survived by his wife; Helen Kosanovic Trkula, children; Melanie Trkula of Whitehall, David (Theresa) Trkula of Penn Twp. And Michelle Trkula of Monroeville. The family would like to express a special thank you to Mel’s caregivers Paula Verdish and Jill Fleming for all of their loving care.
Friends and family will gather on Sunday, November 20th from 2:00 until 8:00 pm at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412 678 6177). Mali Pomen Services will be held Monday at 9:30 am in the funeral home chapel with Burial Service following at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church at 10:00 AM with Fr. Stevan G. Rocknage officiating.
