Roger A. "Butch" Spurgeon, Jr., age 62, of McKeesport, died at home on September 9, 2024.  Born November 29, 1961, in McKeesport, he was the son of Roger Spurgeon, Sr. and the late Virginia (Thayer) Spurgeon and husband of Heidi (Watts) Spurgeon.  Roger will be remembered for his love of camp at Deep Creek, where he spent many joyful moments, especially after retirement, enjoying boating on the lake, relaxing by a fire, and playing cards with his family, particularly enjoying spirited games of 500 and Gin.  He was also a lifelong Steelers fan, a member of the 11th Ward Club, and a John Wayne fan.  Roger's laid-back personality and his penchant for having fun endeared him to those around him, leaving cherished memories that will forever be held dear by his family and friends.  His presence will be sorely missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his father and wife, Roger is also survived by children, Heather Spurgeon, Jessica (Mike) Denmark, and Megan (Jill) Opfar; grandchildren, Caiden, Galeina, and Kali; siblings, Cheryl Ross and The Honorable David Spurgeon; grandmother, June Edgar; nephew, John (Kirra) Ross; niece, Rachel Ross; and a great-niece and great-nephew.  In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John Ross.  Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.  The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.  The burial will follow at McKeesport & Versailles Cemetery.  Condolences and memories may be shared at www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com.
