Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | October 16, 2024
Lisa Diane Contakos (nee Johnson) passed away unexpectedly October 14, 2024. She was born on May 23rd, 1957 to the late Mr & Mrs Edwin W Johnson. Lisa is survived by her beloved husband Peter J Contakos. In addition to Peter, she is survived by her step-children, Eric (Jenny) Contakos, of Pittsburgh, Jim (Christina) Contakos, of South Park, Chris (Sarah) Contakos, of Greenwood, SC, and Kate Contakos (Chris Mera) of New York. Beloved sister of Judi (Chuck) Dersham of Phoenix, AZ, Kim (Dennis) Seidel of North Versailles, Stacy (Doug) Green, of Barrington, IL, and Shelly L. Johnson, of Phoenix, AZ. Adored aunt of nieces Stephanie Shoemaker, Melissa Dersham and of nephew Will Green of Barrington,(of course) IL. Loved by great-nieces, Charlea and Chloe Yonan; great-nephews, Carson and Tyson Shoemaker; and grandchildren Sly Mera-Contakos, and Nika Contakos.
Lisa grew up in North Versailles and graduated from East Allegheny High School in 1975. She worked in various jobs until she met the love of her life, Peter. They spent the next 43 years together, married in October, 1991 in Maui and have been together ever since. Lisa and Peter would retreat to Florida in the winter months, enjoying the warmth and sunshine together. Their bond was unbreakable, and their love for each other was evident to all who knew them.
Throughout her life, Lisa showed love, kindness, and compassion to everyone. Her endless story-telling of her unusual encounters with people were always met with deep, hearty laughter. She unselfishly took great pride in caring for her new family as her own, and later for other family members as their caregiver. Her passion for her home as well as gardening brought her joy as she spent hours tending to her beautiful flowers (with the help of her beloved Dad, Ed) and her specialty star-gazer oriental lilies. Lisa's compassion also extended to her beloved pets, Ollie, Baby Oz, and Spencer.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends will be received at Willig Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. A remembrance service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
